The Yarra River is a river in south-central Victoria, Australia.
The river was called Birrarung by the Kulin people who occupied the Yarra Valley and much of Central Victoria prior to European colonisation.
The name Birrarung means "river of mists," as the area around the waterfall tended to get misty before nightfall.
