Ryuokyo Gorge is located along the upper reaches of the Kinugawa River in Nikko City, Tochigi Prefecture.
Situated between Kinugawa Onsen and Kawaji Onsen, it is a scenic spot within Nikko National Park.
Formed by the erosion of volcanic rock over a stretch of approximately three kilometers, the gorge is characterized by rugged, exposed rock faces.
It was named "Ryuokyo" (Dragon King Gorge) because the landscape evokes the image of a dragon thrashing about wildly.
