Meirinkan was a school opened in 1719 in the Sannomaru of Hagi Castle to educate the children of Mori clan retainers.
130 years later, it moved to the center of the castle town and expanded in size.
To the west side were buildings for academic study, martial arts training grounds such as spear ranges, kendo ranges, and archery ranges, a water training pond to the rear, and a military training ground to the north.
